Track Update 23rd February 2008. Although the numbers of seniors and juniors were down on previous sessions only 12 which included 3 who had never ridden a fixed wheel before let alone Calshot track, we once again had a good morning. As well as having some hard sessions such as gaining a lap we had some more gentle exercises where the new riders were paired up with more experienced riders this proved a great success with all riders able to comfortably ride in a group up to 4 a breast and to ride in-between a 2 lines of riders by the end of the session. Particular mention has to be given to Ellie Gilham (age 12) up to now Ellie has only ridden in 12’s and under group but was given the opportunity to ride in approx half of the senior/junior exercisers which she did very well. We finished with another try at Shaun’s game for the experienced riders which worked very well with riders working hard and together which was very encouraging to see. In the last hour we had 6 turn up for the 12’s and under, plus we let the 3 14 year old girls (2 of which had never ridden the track before and 1 who had only ridden once before) join in to help and encourage them as well as getting some more track time / experience themselves. As well as the usual warm up and skills exercises we had some handicap sprint races which were fought very hard plus they all had a go at a timed lap the results of which are below. We now only have 1 more session booked this winter which will be on the 22nd March and this will incorporate a club track championship- remember to be there
Track Update 26th Jan 2008. We had another good day on the track with 18 seniors/Juniors riding plus another 5 in the 12 and under session afterwards. We did not have any timed laps or races today so no results as such to publish but we worked more on group riding and bunch riding skills and etiquette. All the inexperienced track riders seem to improving greatly which is very encouraging as we intend to have a club track championship at our last session on 22nd March. We also introduced group session affectionately know as Shaun’s game (named after Shaun Wallace) for the first time, this is as close to racing without racing as you can get, although not a complete success, most riders that rode grasped the principle but this is something we will have to work on next time. After this session finished at 12.30pm 5 riders Mark Moss, John Vinson, Adam D’Arcy-Wykes, Graham Hurst and Rebecca Hurst plus Dave (the taxi) Moss rushed off to Newport to joint up with the Palmer Park Velo to ride in their session at 4.00pm. None of us had ridden Newport before and what a great experience it was. Mark and John in particular enjoyed themselves and this could be seen by the beaming smiles on their faces. A long day with lots of travelling but well worth it.
We held another successful track training morning at Calshot on 15/12/07 with a total of 27 riders attending 24 senior / junior riders in the main session and 3 under 12's at the end. PHOTOS can be viewed here (or on the photo pages, trackies have even got their own page there now )
In the 3 sessions we
have had this winter we have now had a total of 42 riders 30 adults 7 school
persons/ Juniors and 5 U12's in others words they are being very well
supported.
In fact in this last
session was really had too many riders so for the future sessions after
Christmas we will be sticking to a maximum of 20 riders (this is the track
limit for training) that way all riders can be on the track at the same time
and that way all riders will get more track time. If you want to book for
one of these sessions please download the form and do so, places are going
fast, you have been warned.
In the main session as
was well as the general group riding / pursuit technique and short sprints
etc we split rides in to groups of 3 for a team sprint flying start timed
1km TT, the results can be seen below and we also finished the morning off
with several riders going a timed flying lap and again the results can be
seen below.
It has been very good
and encouraging to see riders improving and gaining in confidence, remember
some had not even ridden a fixed wheel before attending these sessions.
We also had a local
amateur photographer attend and hopefully we will have some of his pictures
on the web site shortly.
Remember if you want
to come to the next session remember to book early.
