Latest Mike "the Bike" Graven- Dartmoor Classic Sportive Actually he finished a very competitive 8th out of 622 finishers in the 100 mile event which he described in a text afterwards as "Horrific, legs are in bits", a bit like doing circuits of Kingston, Creech and Whiteways for six hours. Can't wait for the write up Mike......... Well done and put pen to paper very soon...... Evening 10 Round 6 14th May Ros says "Here is the result of last night’s 10, we managed to finish just before the deluge but it was pretty close. Can you please inform everyone that, owing to continuing road works at Holes Bay, we are running a 14mile Woodbury Circuit next week and a Gallows Hill 10 the following week – at least it will be a break from the A35."
Crabwood 10 Saturday 10th May Terry Icke won the over 50's group with a stunning 21:10 which was a +9:35 on standard. He never fails to pull a ride out of the hat. Leighton Girling rode to a PB of 22:05 on the Andover Course Terry Belbin achieved at 24:06 just outside his PB of 2004. Lou Dutch was a DNS, well done to all who rode and thanks to Joan Price for the update. Evening 10 Round 5 - 7th May 2008 The evening 10 took place on the Wool to Wareham road Starting and finishing near the Springfield Hotel. The warm weather brought out a few riders and a few spectators. Our timekeepers now fully refreshed from their holidays were sharpening up their pencils well before the 7:30 pm start. Max rode a blindingly quick race and set the standard just catching his minute man Terry on the line. Terry, no stranger to the odd the time trial knew what was in store and rode brilliantly to keep the margin to just the minute.... Max is obviously ramping it up for the National 10...on the 25th of May. Gary Tuskin came next, fresh from 3 days of TT on the Isle of Wight where he finished 8th overall. The races consisted of a 12 mile TT result a 23 mile TT result and a daunting 46 mile TT result Well done Gary.......... The Isle of Wight is not actually very flat.... Judith Martin achieved a goal and rode the distance inside 30 mins which will give her a big boost. Big Adam had a puncture and got a free ride home with Mr Moss.......(Thanks for all your help Mr Moss)
Weekend Roundup How lucky are we ? Always consistent weather at Bank Holiday weekends and this was no different. The Bournemouth & District Women's Cycle Association 25 was held on Sunday on the infamous Upton Bypass where the breeze was playing tricks with everyone... It was a very hard morning .... nobody told Steve Walkling or Paul Jones, but it was horrid..... The Wheelie folk were there minus Mike Graven who DNS for undisclosed reasons.. Terry Icke was out on his first 25 mile excursion of the year and managed 9th at 59:15 which was very respectable. Gary Steadman managed 6th place with 58:24. Leighton was out on a new plastic bike and managed 25th at 1:02:24 Terry Belbin enjoyed the ride and particularly liked the headwind at Holes bay..... 41st at 1:06:51 and Pete Cotty had an enjoyable excursion coming home at 48th 1:09:30 The winner Steve Walkling A3CRG managed an obscene 54:49 which would have been good on an evening 25 in the flat calm.... well done to everyone who raced the full results are available here A very well run event by Louise Burman with lots of lady riders.... the next 25 on this course is the 1st June BACC
Monday saw the return from holiday of our most favourite timekeepers, Ros and Joan....... they brought Coffee too !!! The 9 insomniacs who rode are listed below.... It was the 27km based at the Gliding club, Wareham. Terry Icke got his revenge on those who were in need of a reminder of the pecking order..... Terry Belbin had an unscheduled lie down at the Worgret turn courtesy of a wet manhole cover (no injuries fortunately) Ride of the morning goes to a 2nd claim Wheelie, Rob Jefferies who rode the course on a fixed wheel, and it looked like a big gear..!!!! and managed a very respectable 2nd place....
Evening 10 Round 4 30th April 2008 I am led to understand that the weather held for about 40 minutes.... Long enough for 16 intrepid fools to go racing up and down the Upton bypass......... Highlights, (all this is hearsay, I wasn't actually there M'lud) John Vinson using tri bars for the first time turned the tables on Mark Moss... Max won it by over 2 minutes... good intervals for the National event I suggest. Sarah Chaloner joined us for the evening.... (next time tell us you are doing the event and I ll gather some supporters for you... ie Jan) And..... a birdie tells me that if Judith had removed some of the many bottle cages around her bike she would have cracked 30 mins..... think on... Lastly, thanks to Colin who ran the event so professionally in the absence of our regular ladies who deserve a holiday now and then....
